Washington Hospital workers ratify contract, avoid strike

Service and maintenance workers at Washington Hospital voted to ratify a three-year contract Monday night, avoiding a threatened strike.
Negotiations began in early January for the members of Service Employees International Union Healthcare PA, and an agreement was reached during a 30-hour bargaining session last week, according to an SEIU news release.
The agreement includes "affordable health care" and "fair raises" of 5.5 percent over the next three years, union representatives said.
The contract passed by a 92 percent approval among the 400 workers, union representatives said. The union had voted to strike if they could not reach an agreement.
