A 3-year-old boy died after he was run over by a tractor in Somerset County this afternoon.

State police wrote in a news release that the Amish boy was sitting on the tractor about 2 p.m. when he hit a button that caused it to lurch, throwing him off of the tractor, which then ran over him. No one else was on the tractor at the time.

Troopers said the boy, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene on Shoemaker Hill Road in Elk Lick. The tractor also hit another child, who was taken to Conemaugh Meyersdale Medical Center with minor injuries.

State police have labeled the death an accident.
