Peters Township High School was on lockdown briefly before noon today after a student found a bomb threat in a campus bathroom.

"While this threat was general and did not appear credible, the District takes all safety matters very seriously and the building was placed on lockdown," the district told parents in a statement.

Students evacuated about 11:30 a.m. for no more than 30 minutes, district spokeswoman Shelly Belcher said in an interview.

After a thorough search involving a campus officer and Peters police -- some of that taking place before the actual evacuation -- classes have resumed, she said.

"Over the next several days, there will be increased supervisory and security presence in the building and the administration will continue their investigation into the origin of the threat," according to the statement sent to parents.
