A man died when someone opened fire in the parking lot of a Washington grocery store this afternoon.

Vaughn Simonelli, 55, of Washington, was pronounced dead at the Shop 'n Save in the 100 block of West Beau Street shortly after the shooting.

Washington County coroner Tim Warco said in a news release that Mr. Simonelli was fighting with another man in the parking lot when the other man opened fire, striking Mr. Simonelli once. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Washington city police are investigating the death. Emergency dispatchers said police took one person in for questioning following the shooting.

KDKA-TV quoted Washington detective Dan Stanek as saying, "As officers were responding, we were advised that the individual who did the shooting was the one who called 911 and he was waiting here for officers."
