Police are investigating a shooting outside a bar in Washington, Pa., that left a man dead shortly after midnight Thursday.

Rensfield Jarvis, 23, was shot and killed in the 700 block of Ewing Street around 12:30 a.m. after leaving Pickles Saloon, a bar on that street.

Washington City Police Lt. Dan Stanek said Mr. Jarvis had been outside only about a minute when he was shot several times in the chest and head. Bar patrons reported no problems while Mr. Jarvis was inside with friends.

Police said Mr. Jarvis had moved to Washington from the Bronx, N.Y., about two months ago and was staying with family on Locust Avenue.

"He came down here to kind of get a new start," Lt. Stanek said.
