A 79-year-old New Eagle man was injured Saturday evening when he crashed his ultralite aircraft near the Bandel Airport in North Bethlehem, Washington County.

State police said Keith Ackman was attempting to take off from the airport shortly after 6:30 p.m. when his ultralite craft clipped trees and fell to the ground.

Mr. Ackman was trapped in the airplane but was conscious when rescue workers from Washington County EMS and Lone Pine and Ellsworth volunteer fire departments freed him.

He complained of chest pain and was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital. State police released no additional information.
