McDonald council accepted the resignation of Michael J. Lauderbaugh tonight, effective immediately.

Mr. Lauderbaugh, a lifelong resident and member of the McDonald Volunteer Fire Department, had been appointed to council in July 2010 to fill a vacant seat. He resigned for personal reasons.

"I appreciate the opportunities I have been given during my time with the borough, as well as your professional guidance and support," he wrote in a brief letter to President Marilou Ritchie.

Council has 30 days to fill the seat. Residents wanting to be considered for the position may send a letter of interest by June 18 to the borough office, 151 School Street, McDonald, PA 15057.
