Cornerstone Care's Medical & Dental Plaza on Route 18 in Burgettstown was evacuated today for the third time in a month due to a strong gas odor.

An answering machine at the facility said it will "remain closed indefinitely" and said patients will be contacted at a later date.

The facility, which provides medical and dental care in the rural area of Washington County, was first closed due to gas and oily paint odors during the first week of April when patients and health care workers became ill. It reopened for a day and then was closed again on Apr. 10. It reopened two days later.

Firefighters and hazardous materials personnel from the Washington County public safety department were unable to identify the cause of the odors that led to the first two closings.

Robert MtJoy, Cornerstone Care chief executive officer, was at the Burgettstown facility after it was evacuated today, according to staff at Cornerstone's headquarters, but did not return phone calls requesting comment.

Cornerstone has nine medical and dental services offices in Washington, Greene and Fayette counties.
