A 96-year-old Washington County woman who was struck by the passenger van that had taken her home from grocery shopping died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head and trunk.

That was the determination of the Allegheny County Medical Examiner, who performed the autopsy today on Rose Anderson of Canton.

The examiner's office ruled the death an accident.

She had died at about 1 a.m. Saturday at UPMC Presybterian from injures she received when the van that had dropped her off outside her home rolled over her Friday afternoon.

According to state police at Washington, Ms. Anderson was unloading groceries when the van used by Washington Rides and driven by Selena Verner, 35, rolled backwards.

State police were planning to inspect the van's transmission and emergency brake.
