Driver killed in Washington County crash

A Burgettstown man was killed this morning in a Washington County crash.
County Coroner Tim Warco said that Frederick Speer III, 54, died when the vehicle he was driving veered off of Purdy Road in Hanover and struck a tree. He said the vehicle then rolled down an embankment and landed upside down in a creek.
A passing FedEx delivery driver discovered the accident scene at about 9 a.m. Mr. Speer was pronounced dead at 10:58 a.m., according to the coroner.
State police are investigating and an autopsy is planned.
