A Windgap man died today when he drove a pick-up truck into oncoming traffic and collided with a tractor-trailer, snarling the southbound lanes of Interstate 79 near Southpointe in Washington County for several hours.
Mark Chesick, 45, was driving northbound on I-79 when his truck crossed into opposing traffic and collided with a tractor-trailer truck heading southbound, Washington County coroner Tim Warco said in a news release. Mr. Chesick, who was driving alone, was thrown from the pick-up truck and died at the crash scene.
An emergency dispatch supervisor said initial reports indicated that there were additional injuries but dispatchers did not know the conditions of others involved in the crash.
State police were investigating and declined to immediately release additional information. The highway remained closed for at least two hours and has since reopened.
