Allegheny County residents now can go to one source, www.humanservices.net, to find information about programs provided by 3,000 social service agencies.

Chief Executive Dan Onorato yesterday introduced the mammoth online database, which was created in a partnership with 3 Rivers Connect, a nonprofit organization in Downtown Pittsburgh, and MAYA Design, a technology research lab on the South Side.

MAYA uses its own "sharing" software to link information from the county's Department of Human Services, the United Way, and other local and national organizations, according to Josh Knauer, the firm's director of advanced development.

He said the new Web site could easily be updated by all groups involved, saving time and money.

The project was funded by the Human Services Integration Fund, a group of 15 local foundations.

The Web site searches for programs by neighborhood, ZIP code, school district or bus route. County officials say they plan to schedule training sessions for using the site.
