When Pennsylvania Turnpike tolls go up on Jan. 2, the tickets issued to cash-paying customers will no longer list the amounts due at each interchange.

CEO Joe Brimmeier said that because the turnpike has adopted annual toll increases as part of its obligations under Act 44, the state transportation funding law, it would have to print a new supply of tickets each year.

Nearly two-thirds of drivers now use E-ZPass electronic toll collection and others rely on the toll-booth screens that display the amount due after they've handed over the ticket.

"Why go to the expense of printing these things when most people don't even look at them?" Mr. Brimmeier said.
