Supreme Court to hear redistricting arguments today

The state Supreme Court will hear arguments today over challenges to Pennsylvania's redrawn legislative district maps, which were revised after those justices threw out an initial plan in January.
Legislative maps are updated once per decade following each census, so that boundaries can be shifted to better reflect the state's population.
The state's top court said the set of revisions crafted last fall, which were supposed to be used for this year's elections, divided too many localities in an attempt to create districts with an equal number of residents.
A five-member panel made up of top state lawmakers from both political parties and an outside chairman approved a new plan in June.
The 13 challenges filed against the revised plan will be argued during the court's session in Philadelphia.
