State System, union reach tentative agreement

Members of the State College and University Professional Association have ratified a new contract, the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education announced in a news release.
The tentative agreement must now be approved by the State System board of governors, spokesman Kenn Marshall said.
The union represents admissions, financial aid, residence life and other student support services officers on the 14 state-owned campuses in Pennsylvania, Mr. Marshall said.
"Meanwhile, negotiations between PASSHE and the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties, the union that represents State System university faculty, resumed today, with the two sides continuing to make progress toward a settlement," he said Friday.
Negotiators reached a tentative agreement today on salary and compensation, faculty spokeswoman Lauren Gutshall said.
"The key outstanding issues are health care [for active members and retirees] and distance education compensation [for teaching online]," she said.
