Sandusky scandal cost exceeds $100 million

Penn State University has made public new figures showing the school has spent more than $27 million so far on legal fees, consultants and public relations firms to deal with the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.
The latest tally of $27,663,423 reflects money spent through Nov. 30, the university said in an updated note on its website.
The largest share -- $13,084,105 -- is for internal investigation and communications. The school also spent another $7,484,235 for university legal services and defense, $3,955,718 for defense of indemnified individuals, $1,842,527 for other institutional expenses and $1,302,838 for externally initiated investigations, according to the website.
The total does not represent the entire financial impact of the scandal because it does not include a $60 million NCAA fine, $13 million in future bowl revenue stripped from the university and other expenses. Those push the total financial impact to Penn State to more than $100 million so far.
