Pittsburgh Post-Gazette business reporter Erich Schwartzel won the prestigious G. Richard Dew Award in the annual Newspaper of the Year contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association. The award, which was presented at a luncheon in Scranton on Friday, is given to an individual or organization that has made an outstanding contribution to the community or state through an article or series of articles. Mr. Schwartzel was honored for his hard-hitting coverage of Chesapeake Energy's controversial CEO Aubrey McClendon.

Additionally, the Post-Gazette won three first places, one second and three honorable mentions in the contest, which recognizes excellence on both the news and business sides of media organizations. The first place finishes were for newswriting excellence, diversity coverage and online presence; second was for best use of photography; and honorable mentions were for layout and design, special section and newspaper promotion.
