Poll shows Gov. Corbett with another negative job approval rating

Gov. Tom Corbett continues to receive negative job approval ratings and does not deserve to be re-elected next year, a new poll of likely Pennsylvania voters shows.
The latest Quinnipiac University poll says 49 percent disapprove of the job done by the Republican governor, who has struggled with low job-approval ratings during his first two years in office. Thirty-nine percent approve of Mr. Corbett's work.
He received a 42-36 percent disapproval rating in Quinnipiac University's Jan. 29 poll.
The voters in the most recent poll say, 53-35 percent, that Mr. Corbett does not deserve re-election next year.
Men are divided when asked about Gov. Corbett's work: 47 percent approve and 44 percent disapprove. Women disapprove by 53-33 percent. Democrats disapprove, 74-13 percent, and independent voters, 47-41 percent. Republicans approve, 67-27 percent.
"Pennsylvania voters, especially women, don't like Gov. Corbett and are ready to consider several possible Democratic challengers, especially former Congressman Joseph Sestak, [Allentown] Mayor Ed Pawlowski and U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "The fact that these relative unknowns top or tie Gov. Corbett signals a tough road to reelection."
The poll shows that if the gubernatorial election was held today, Mr. Sestak would defeat Gov. Corbett, 47-38 percent.
From last Wednesday through Monday, Quinnipiac University pollsters surveyed 1,116 registered voters in Pennsylvania with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones.
