Pennsylvania's population increases slightly

Pennsylvania experienced modest population growth in the past year, adding 19,588 people, the U.S. Census Bureau reported today.

The bureau estimated the state's population as of July 1 at 12,763,536 residents, an increase of 0.2 percent from the year before. The 10 fastest-growing states all had gains of more than 1.0 percent, led by North Dakota, with a 2.17 percent increase.

Pennsylvania remains the nation's sixth-largest state.
