Pennsylvania train-vehicle collisions fall, deaths and injuries to pedestrians rise

Train-vehicle collisions at railroad crossings fell by nearly 5 percent in Pennsylvania in 2012, but deaths and injuries to people trespassing along rail lines rose by 23.5 percent, a safety organization reported today.
According to preliminary data from the Federal Railroad Administration, there were 60 train-vehicle collisions in Pennsylvania last year, down 4.8 percent from 2011.
Four were killed and 21 injured in those incidents in 2012.
Also last year, 28 pedestrians were killed trespassing on railroad property and 21 were injured.
The data were reported by Pennsylvania Operation Lifesaver, an industry-supported safety organization.
