Two state representatives on Monday asked colleagues to join them in bringing a resolution for the House to begin impeachment proceedings against Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin.

The suspended Supreme Court justice and her sister, Janine Orie, were found guilty in February on charges related to campaigns by Joan Orie Melvin for Pennsylvania's high court. Justice Orie Melvin was found guilty on six of seven counts, including conspiracy, theft of services and misapplication of government funds. They are scheduled for sentencing May 7.

On Monday, state Rep. Glen Grell, R-Cumberland, and Rep. John Sabatina, D-Philadelphia, circulated a memo asking House members to lend their names to a resolution authorizing the House Judiciary Committee to investigate the justice's conduct to determine if she is liable for impeachment.

Justice Orie Melvin also could be removed from the court at sentencing or in a proceeding before the Court of Judicial Discipline.
