A judge has denied former state Sen. Jane Orie's request that she be released on bail while appealing her public corruption charges.

Orie's attorney requested last week that she be released from prison while appealing her March conviction on charges that she used her legislative office for campaigning. The McCandless Republican's defense team has alleged the charges were politically motivated by Democratic District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr.

Allegheny County Common Pleas Court Judge Jeffrey A. Manning denied the request in a short order filed Tuesday afternoon.
