A 82-year-old Bedford County man died after he lost control of his car on Interstate 99 and crashed into an embankment Sunday afternoon, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Orville S. Ickes, of Imler, about a half-hour from Altoona, died at the scene, according to a press release from state police in the Bedford barracks.

Police said Mr. Ickes was seen speeding and erratically driving a Chevrolet Colbat just before 1:50 p.m. He passed two vehicles along the west berm, lost control and moved east across both lanes and off the road.

His car hit an embankment head on in the median, causing the car to roll end over end.

Mr. Ickes was thrown from the car.

State police are investigating the cause of the crash.
