Volunteers are needed to help seniors live independently in their homes, and orientations for those willing to assist will be held in July and August.

Family Services of Western Pennsylvania and North Hills Community Outreach coordinate the United Way initiative called Open Your Heart to a Senior, which provides help such as transportation to medical appointments and grocery shopping, telephone reassurance calls, simple home repairs, yard work and friendly home visits.

The program included 378 volunteers last year, delivering help to about 1,350 older adults.
