A Bedford County parent teacher organization's treasurer was arrested Tuesday after state police say she stole more than $11,300 from the group.

The Chestnut Ridge Parent Teacher Organization requested an investigation after it was discovered bills were not being paid and checks were being made out to and paid to the treasurer, state police said in a press release.

Leanna Marie Gottshall, 33, of Osterburg, Pa., began writing checks payable to herself in August and forged the organization president's name, state police said.

From Aug. 4 through Feb. 15, Ms. Gottshall cashed 34 checks totaling $11,074.55, state police said, adding that 30 of the checks were forged.

She took an additional $254.53 in cash from a fundraiser and candy and pencil sales, state police said.

Ms. Gottshall was charged with 30 felony counts of forgery and one felony count of theft by failure to make required disposition of funds received.
