The show's not over. If predictions hold true, a storm moving in from Texas will continue to drop snow, sleet and freezing rain on the region until about 1 p.m. today.

It was hard to tell Friday night which parts of southwestern Pennsylvania, southeastern Ohio and the West Virginia panhandle would be hit hardest, National Weather Service meteorologist Rihaan Gangat said.

The weather service issued a winter storm warning Friday that included Allegheny, Greene, Washington, Westmoreland and Fayette counties, among others. By the time it's all done, people can expect to see 1 to 4 inches of snow and a quarter inch of ice.

The weather was expected to be worst between midnight and 6 or 8 a.m., when the lack of sun and cold temperatures would create the perfect conditions for ice. But Mr. Gangat said residents should still be on the lookout for snow, sleet and freezing rain late this morning and early afternoon.

Local public works and PennDOT crews were out in force Friday working to curb the effects of ice.

Crews with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spent Friday attaching plows to their trucks and were dispatched to treat roadways around the clock this weekend, said Jeff Karr, PennDOT District 11 assistant district executive for maintenance.

Robert Kaczorowski, Pittsburgh public works director, said all of the city's trucks would be on the road.

City officials reminded residents that they must clear their sidewalks within 24 hours after the snow stops.

The mayor's 311 Service Center will not accept calls for street cleaning during a storm. City workers hope to have all streets cleared within 12 to 24 hours of the last snow fall, when the service center will begin accepting street cleaning calls again.

Across the region, schools, museums and churches were already canceling activities today. Pittsburgh Public Schools canceled all activities while the Moon Area School District canceled its sports activities and practices. Carnegie museums in Oakland canceled their Saturday classes.
