Special weather statement warns of icy glaze, freezing drizzle

Early morning commuters found most main highways mostly were clear of snow after yesterday's storm, but drivers are being warned to pay close attention to roadway conditions.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh posted just before 6 a.m. a special weather statement, alerting residents of the possibility of freezing drizzle and an icy glaze on roads. The statement covered the counties of Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland.
The weather service said that temperatures in the mid to upper 20s along with abundant low-level moisture have produced areas of freezing drizzle and a glaze of ice on roadways in some spots. The freezing drizzle should turn to light snow as the morning progresses. Be especially careful on bridges and overpasses.
Local state and federal highways were passable in the hours before dawn, though some roadways, such as Route 8 in Shaler and Etna, had significant slush leftover from yesterday that could cause driving difficulties.
