A problem with light fixtures in the outbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel caused a brief closure followed by a lane restriction this morning.

A driver reported seeing sparks from a fixture at about 8:20 a.m. and the tunnel was closed for about 12 minutes before PennDOT opened the left lane.

The right lane remained closed until electricians could shut off the faulty fixtures shortly before 9 a.m. The problem caused traffic to back up beyond Oakland.
