Snow prompts cancellations in Pittsburgh region

The city of Pittsburgh announced that many parks would close at 2 p.m. A release said "all programming is cancelled for this afternoon and evening at Schenley Park skating rink, Oliver Bath House, Mellon Park Tennis Center, all community recreation centers, Frick Environmental Center and al Healthy Active Living senior centers. . . . Citiparks facilities and programs will resume regular schedues on Thursday, Dec. 27."

The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium closed early.

Some restaurants, including the one at Penn Brewery on the North Side, closed because of the weather.

The three-day Gateway Boys Basketball Tournament scheduled to begin today with four games has been pushed back a day. The new schedule for games is Thursday, Friday and and Saturday.

Also postponed a day until Thursday is the Ambridge Girls Basketball Tournament.

Other one-day postponements until Thursday include the Charleroi Boy's Basketball Tournament, the Mars Area Girls Basketball Tournament and the Penn State-Beaver Girls High School Basketball Tournament.
