Dick's Sporting Goods to meet with AG about gun violence

Dick's Sporting Goods, the Findlay retailer that pulled some guns from its shelves after the tragedy in Newtown, Conn., is one of a group of merchants scheduled to meet this afternoon with Attorney General Eric Holder to discuss the issue of gun violence.
According to a White House pool report issued today by Time correspondent Michael Scherer, both Mr. Holder and Vice President Joe Biden are holding sessions to talk about guns, as part of a task force effort to look at issues raised since the shootings at an elementary school in December.
Mr. Biden's first meeting this morning was to include a number of outdoors groups, including the Outdoor Industry Association, Ducks Unlimited and the Wildlife Management Institute.
This afternoon, the vice president's agenda, according to the report, calls for a meeting with gun owners' groups, such as the National Rifle Association of America and the Independent Firearm Owners Association. This evening, he'll be meeting with representatives of the entertainment industry.
Meanwhile, Mr. Holder's meeting with retailers, scheduled for 3:15 p.m., is expected to include representatives of Dick's, Cabela's, Dunham's Sports, Gander Mountain and Wal-Mart, among others.
Dick's suspended the sale of certain weapons a few days after the Newtown incident, a move that has made the company a target of much criticism from gun owners. The company has not indicated if or when it might begin selling those items again.
