Members of the Flight 93 Advisory Commission will be told today during their quarterly meeting that the memorial to the heroes of the Sept. 11 attack in Somerset County attracted a record number of visitors last year.

Jeff Reinbold, National Park Service superintendent, said nearly 350,000 visitors came to the Flight 93 National Memorial in 2012 -- the first full calendar year after the permanent memorial was dedicated on the 10th anniversary of the attacks in 2011.

The commission will also get an update on the impending beginning of construction of the visitors center at the memorial, which will start with a groundbreaking sometime this spring or early summer, he said.

The meeting is open to the public and begins at 10 a.m. in the National Park Service's former Somerset offices at 109 W. Main St. in downtown Somerset.
