Prescription drug abuse summit slated for June 27

A summit on the prescription drug abuse problem in Western Pennsylvania is set for June 27 at Washington & Jefferson College's Olin Fine Arts Hall in Washington, Pa.
U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton is organizing the Western Pennsylvania Prescription Drug Abuse Summit, which will include representatives of the Drug Enforcement Administration, the FBI and the state Office of the Attorney General.
A 1 to 5 p.m. session, geared toward police and drug treatment professionals, will feature panel discussions with health care, mental health, addiction and law enforcement experts. It will be open to the public and anyone who wants to attend can register by emailing to USAPAW-RxDrugAbuseSummit@usdoj.gov.
A 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. public session for parents, educators and concerned citizens will feature firsthand accounts of pill addiction. People can also anonymously turn in unneeded prescription medications for proper disposal. Anyone who wants to attend that session can register by calling 412-894-7516.
