The Jacksonville Transportation Authority has hired an Atlanta man for its top post, passing on Steve Bland of the Port Authority of Allegheny County.

The Port Authority's chief executive officer, Mr. Bland was one of three finalists for JTA chief executive. The board voted unanimously to choose Nathaniel Ford, a transportation consultant who formerly headed the San Francisco and Atlanta transit agencies, according to a report in the Florida Times-Union.

Mr. Bland also was a finalist to head the Atlanta system but that agency's board hired someone else.

He has said he sought neither position but was identified and contacted by executive search firms.
