Pittsburgh police investigate 911 call that preceded Larimer woman's killing

Pittsburgh police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a 911 call -- and how officers handled the response to it -- that was placed by homicide victim Ka'Sandra Wade the night before her body was found. She had been shot to death.
"The Bureau of Police is conducting a homicide and internal investigation into this incident to determine if all bureau polices and procedures were followed. We are in the early stages of an ongoing investigation, and as such, the bureau will not answer or provide a statement on the questions below or any media inquiries into this incident," police spokeswoman Diane Richard said in a statement this evening prompted by inquiries today from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The body of Ms. Wade, 33, was found Tuesday night in her home at 528 Lowell St. in Larimer after worried relatives called authorities.
Several hours later, a police SWAT team engaged in a standoff with Ms. Wade's boyfriend, Anthony L. Brown, 51, who claimed he had killed her. In the early morning hours of Wednesday, Mr. Brown committed suicide inside his North Point Breeze apartment, police said.
The Post-Gazette has learned that on Monday -- nearly 24 hours before Ms. Wade's body was discovered -- she called 911, but the line was disconnected after some sort of unidentified commotion.
Two police officers from Zone 5 in Highland Park -- Louis Schweitzer and Lance Hoyson -- were dispatched to Lowell Street for a report of "unknown trouble."
When the officers arrived, they spoke with a man police later identified as Mr. Brown. He told the officers that there was no problem, but he would not let them in.
After 10 minutes on scene, the officers left the residence.
