The Pittsburgh region could receive 4 to 6 inches of snow Friday that could complicate evening rush hour traffic, according to the National Weather Service.

The city of Pittsburgh should expect about 4 inches, the service confirmed tonight.

A weather service advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. Friday through 1 a.m. Saturday for Allegheny County and surrounding counties in southwestern Pennsylvania, southern Ohio and the majority of West Virginia.

Snow is expected to begin late Friday morning and become most intense in the afternoon through evening, according to the weather service.

The advisory is in effect for the following counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Fayette, Forest, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Washington and Westmoreland.

A winter storm warning has been issued from noon tomorrow through 7 p.m. Saturday for the highest elevations in Westmoreland and Fayette counties, as well as Garrett County, Md., and Preston and Tucker counties in West Virginia. The highest elevations could get between 6 and 8 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

The Pittsburgh Public Works Department issued an alert that the snow will cause possible complications for the evening rush hour.

Road conditions will begin to deteriorate shortly after noon on Friday, according to the department. The National Weather Service said to expect snow-covered roads and reduced visibility.
