Police in Columbiana County, Ohio, are investigating the shooting death of a woman at her home and the wounding of her 5-year-old grandson.

Melinda Todd, 43, was found shot Monday in her rental home in Salem Township. Her grandson also was shot and was being treated at an Akron hospital, where he underwent brain surgery.

Ms. Todd was the legal guardian of the boy and two others who lived in the home.

The boy's mother is in prison for killing her infant son in 2010, and his father is also in jail, according to the Youngstown Vindicator.

Ms. Todd's 12-year-old daughter found her body on a couch along with the wounded boy when she came home from school Monday.
