Ground-breaking held for Navy support center

A ground-breaking ceremony was held this morning for the new Navy Operational Support Center in Moon.
The center, which will be built on the grounds of the 911th Air Force Reserve, is expected to open in February 2014.
The two-story support center will have administrative and recruiting offices and a drill hall as well as places for exercise and instruction. The center is expected to have about 300 military personnel.
Over the summer, the Navy awarded a $10.6 million contract for construction of the center, which will move out of a deteriorating facility in Versailles. The contract was awarded to PJ Dick and Construction Performance Management.
Supporters of the 911th hope this will strengthen the case to keep the base open. The Pentagon had slated it for closing, but it received a reprieve. The 911th employs about 1,900 people.
