Most dogs now removed from Triangle Pet Control

Only three of 23 dogs housed at a McKees Rocks kennel that has lost its license remained there Friday and were expected to be picked up by their owners by Saturday, its operator said.
Most of the dogs formerly housed at Triangle Pet Control Service were taken in by the Animal Rescue League and Animal Friends.
Another dog died and two others are two are being treated for parvovirus, which is highly contagious and potentially fatal, said Larry Gerson, a Point Breeze veterinarian. He is on the board of the Allegheny Abused Animal Relief Fund, or AAARF, which is paying for the veterinary care for the ill dogs.
With the clearance of the kennel of all dogs, the chief at Triangle said he will become the new owner of the facility and will rename it and get it back to operating under the law.
"I'm going to get things moving in the right direction. It's going to be the same building but it's going to be a different name and a different staff," said Paul McIntyre, who has worked there for 28 years. "It's going to be a whole new business with no previous owners."
Mr. McIntyre took over as chief of the McKees Rocks kennel in January shortly after state police brought charges against the owner, Bernard Dudash, for allegedly tampering with records and inflating the number of dogs the shelter euthanized in order to receive more state reimbursement.
The kennel's license was officially suspended Oct. 1 by the state Department of Agriculture after a warden visited the site in August and cited Mr. Dudash for failing to maintain records and meet sanitary requirements.
Triangle Pet had been serving dozens of Allegheny County municipalities. Mr. McIntyre said he hopes to reacquire those contracts.
