MLK Day events begin today

Events are scheduled across the region today leading up to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday.

Here are two that are open to the public:

At 3 p.m., the East Liberty Branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host a forum on the local costs of war on African-American communities.

This evening, the Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church will present the first of the two-concert "Let Freedom Sing!" series with the Pittsburgh Gospel Choir, spoken-word artist Vanessa German and community singing groups. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at 6556 Shetland Ave. in Larimer.
