A memorial Mass for Monsignor H. Jules Roos, a Pittsburgh native and missionary in Chimbote, Peru, for nearly 50 years, will be celebrated by Bishop David A. Zubik March 23 at St. Paul Cathedral in Oakland.

The Mass for Monsignor Roos, who died in Peru Feb. 16 at age 82, will start at 12:05 p.m.

Monsignor Roos, along with another Pittsburgh priest and some Dominican sisters from Grand Rapids, Mich., built and sustained a maternity hospital that became the Center for Social Works in Chimbote and now operates a 26-bed maternity hospital where more than 88,000 babies have been born. There is also a related wellness clinic, lab and pharmacy that serves some 17,000 patients each month.

A funeral Mass for Monsignor Roos was held in Chimbote Feb. 18. Memorial donations to the mission may be sent to the Chimbote Foundation, 111 Boulevard of the Allies, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15222.
