The Meadows Racetrack & Casino will close for several hours early Thursday to allow workers to make electrical repairs as a result of a power outage last week.

The casino will close at 12:30 a.m. Thursday and should be reopened by 5:00 a.m., according to casino officials. Representatives from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will be on hand to supervise the repairs and approve the reopening.

Guests visiting the casino Friday night were evacuated after a vehicle crashed into a utility pole in the area, triggering a power surge and outage that left the casino's surveillance systems severely damaged.

"Last Friday's power surge produced an unfortunate inconvenience on our guests -- and for that we apologize," Sean Sullivan, casino vice president and general manager, said in a press release. "We have scheduled these repairs to minimize additional impacts on our guests, who have been extremely patient and understanding."
