Man killed in Ligonier crash identified

The Westmoreland County coroner's office has identified a man killed in a car crash in Ligonier as 69-year-old Eric J. Astin.
Mr. Astin, of Ligonier, was driving north on Route 711 near Darlington Road about 7:10 p.m. on Thursday when he crossed the center line and struck a utility pole and two trees, according to the coroner's office.
Ligonier police are still investigating why he left the roadway and suspect he may have fallen asleep.
No one was else was in the car at the time of the crash, which prompted officers to close the road for nearly two hours.
