Persistent bands of snow showers this morning are causing slippery highways and some school delays, primarily north of Pittsburgh.

A special weather statement issued by the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh for Butler, Lawrence, Armstrong and Indiana counties advises commuters of snow showers moving across the area. Snow squalls may impacts some areas, leaving a quick inch or two through the morning rush hour, the weather service said.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Clarion and Jefferson counties until noon today. Lake-effect snow showers will be accompanied by winds gusting to 25 mph in those areas. Counties farther north are under lake effect snow advisories and warnings.
