A New Kensington man who did not resurface after he went under the water during a weekend fishing trip at Moraine State Park was found dead this evening.
Park manager Dan Bickel said he found 42-year-old Matthew Parys in a 9-foot-deep section of Lake Arthur, about 50 yards away from a boat launching dock near Route 528.
The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources said Mr. Parys was on a boating trip with three other people when he went missing about midnight Sunday. Witnesses told park rangers that as their pontoon boat was approaching a dock they believe he either jumped or fell into Lake Arthur near Route 528.
The boat was about 50 to 75 yards from the launch. It wasn't clear if the boaters were wearing life-jackets, a DCNR spokesman said.
Volunteers and rescue teams from multiple police and fire agencies called off their search Sunday night but returned to the scene this morning.
State police sonar boats aided in the search today. Divers and cadaver dogs were on standby, Mr. Bickel said.
