While Allegheny County saw just a light covering of snow Friday, other parts of the region received a bonafide snowstorm.

Farmington, in Fayette County, saw more than 8 inches of snow, said Lee Hendricks, meteorologist with the National Weather Service. Preston County, W.Va., got 14 inches of snow. Canaan Valley ski resort in West Virginia and Wisp Resort in Maryland got about a foot of snow.

In Allegheny County, Carnegie received the most snow, at 3 inches. Other parts of the county got less than an inch.

While the snow is supposed to tail off today, it could return for Christmas Eve, said Mr. Hendricks. The forecast calls for rain in the evening, changing over to snow, with lows in the upper 20s.

A white Christmas is also a distinct possibility, he said, with a 40 percent chance of snow showers Christmas Day.
