Glassport chlorine leak plugged

A chlorine gas leak from a tank at the Glassport sewage plant has been contained, authorities said this afternoon.
There were no injuries reported as a result of the leak from the facility at 2 Harrison St. The state Department of Environmental Protection said one person was being evaluated by paramedics.
Authorities were checking to see whether there was any environmental damage, an Allegheny County 911 supervisor said.
Although the DEP was notified of the leak, agency spokesman Kevin Sunday said the Allegheny County Health Department was responding.
The leak was reported at 2:09 p.m. Mr. Sunday said it came from a chlorine tank.
A county hazardous materials team was activated. Univar, which is responsible for maintenance at the facility, is also bringing in its own emergency response team, Mr. Sunday said.
First responders from the Glassport volunteer fire department sealed the leak, Guillermo Cole, a county health department spokesman, said.
"There was minimal leakage -- no significant impact on public health or the environment," Mr. Cole said.
