Freezing rain advisory issued for area today

The work week is expected to get off to a complicated start today as freezing rain is predicted to confound commuters.
The National Weather Service at Pittsburgh, based in Moon, issued a warning Sunday that freezing rain would enter the region as early as Sunday evening in some neighborhoods.
Meteorologist John Darnley said in Allegheny and surrounding counties a freezing rain advisory will be in effect from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. "All this can leave accumulations of up to a half- to one-inch of snow with one-tenth-inch of ice," Mr. Darnley said. "It's going to impact [Monday's] commute."
Meantime, in the region's northern counties -- Venango, Clarion, Forest and Jefferson -- a warning will be in effect from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. A quarter-inch of ice is expected to coat the ground.
While commutes may be tricky this morning, Mr. Darnley said the good news is that temperature will rise in the evening then hang around for a couple of days.
"We're looking for temperatures to max out at 44 degrees Monday then 57 on Tuesday and 54 on Wednesday," he said. The mercury will fall back to the 20s on Thursday and Friday.
