Fitzgerald urges Allegheny County residents to observe moment of silence

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald has urged residents to join those across the nation in observing a moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. today for the victims of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
"Last Friday, many across this nation stopped as the news about the tragedy in Connecticut spread. Then, like today, our thoughts and prayers are with the families and officials there. By joining in this moment of silence we honor the victims and their families, as well as an entire community that is still struggling with this tragedy. I urge other governments and organizations within this county to observe this national moment of silence as well," he said in a statement issued this morning.
Mr. Fitzgerald will participate in the observance during a previously scheduled visit with staff, faculty and students at the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf.
Gov. Tom Corbett will host a moment of silence during a ceremony in the Governor's Reception Room with members of his staff and Cabinet.
