Federal prosecutors in Western Pennsylvania brought in $19 million during the past fiscal year in judgments, fines, settlements, restitution, special assessments and forfeitures, U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton announced Thursday.

That's up from about $15.6 million the previous fiscal year, according to the news release.

The increase is part of a national jump in collections by federal prosecutors from $6.5 billion in fiscal year 2011 to $13.1 billion in fiscal year 2012, which ended Sept. 30.

In June, the Pittsburgh office won a $1.98 million settlement in a false claims case involving Excela Health Corp. and Westmoreland Regional Hospital, according to the release.
