Ex-SCI Pittsburgh officer pleads guilty to simple assault

A former Pittsburgh corrections officer already guilty on four counts against him pleaded guilty this morning to simple assault.
Tory Kelly, 41, of Aliquippa, will be sentenced on all five counts against him April 2 by Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge David R. Cashman.
Mr. Kelly was accused of going to the home of Curtis Hoffman, a fellow officer at the State Correctional Institution Pittsburgh, and a witness against him, on Aug. 2, 2011.
According to Assistant District Attorney Jon Pittman, Mr. Kelly went to Mr. Hoffman's home and threatened him for about 10 minutes and accused him of talking behind his back.
After Mr. Hoffman's wife said she was calling 911, Mr. Kelly left.
When asked why he was pleading guilty, the defendant answered "because I am guilty, your honor. I did go to his home."
Mr. Kelly was one of four corrections officers from the prison to be charged criminally following allegations of abuse against inmates in the F Block.
During a nonjury trial before Judge Cashman in December, Kelly was found guilty of witness intimidation, simple assault, official oppression and terroristic threats.
